Throw out the baby with the bath water.

Welcome, to the first of many enlightening articles from your’s truly.

I’m sure you’ll find something here that you can at least chew on for a while. I hope that you will find thought provoking commentary on some of your favorite topics. The first thing that I want to touch on is the up coming draft and how the home town Broncos will approach it. I’m going to be writing primarily about the Broncos because that’s what I’m exposed to. I live in Denver, Colorado, but I’m a Green Bay Packer fan. Have been since the age of seven. Being a Denver native I have been following the team for most of my life. I’ve seen all the highs and lows since 1975. Including the gut wrenching Super Bowl victory over my Packers. This being said, lets begin the Bronco talk.

As I’m sure all of you have heard, the young Mr. Cutler is now a member of the hated Chi Bears. Now more than ever, I am hoping for the same thing as all of you. I hope that the Bronco’s get the number one pick over all in next years draft. If the Bears take their rightful place in the league, Dead last, then this trade will work out for you and me. Lets look at the facts. Last year Cutler broke the single season passing yardage record for Bronco quarter backs with 4457 yards. It’s a stat that I’m not really surprised by or impressed with. I little a dissection of the season will reveal a lack of running game stability, which will always yield a ton of passing attempts (616). He maintained a respectable completion percentage (62.3%).

While Orton only threw for a pedestrian 2812 yards and a completion percentage of 58%. The difference is negligible. Orton wasn’t equipped with a Brandon Marshal, Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley , or Tony Scheffler. In fact Orton’s top receiver was the rookie running back Matt Forte. It will be interesting to see how much greener the grass will be for both of these QB s. Do we really believe Matt Cassel is head and shoulders better than Kyle Orton?

The brighter side of all of this is the draft possibilities for the Broncos. They will have both the 12th and 18 pick in the first round this year, and hopefully the number one over all pick next year. This should go a long way to rebuilding the defense this year and open up great opportunity to draft a QB next year when we have a potential to see another legendary class of rooky Quarterbacks enter the league.

To sum up, I feel that the only thing the Broncos will take away from this trade that won’t be a total positive, is a possible knock on their previously impeccable player interaction reputation. It’s time to be enthusiastically realistic if you’re a Bronco fan. They will probably not have a stellar season this year, but this will be looked back on as the year that they loaded up for the coming decade. It could even be the foundation for a dynasty. I just hope that the Packers don’t end up falling victim to another Denver championship.

I’ll talk with you again soon. Until then, keep a cold one in the fridge for me.

Dale.
