I typically only write in here when I need to vent a few things about the Denver Broncos. I know my views are usually way off....(McDaniel's, Cutler...so on,) but come on folks! The Tebow chants on Monday's loss to Oakland have got to stop. Never in the history of the league has a coach admitted to starting a QB because the fans chanted his name when the starter played poorly. Orton is the best QB on the team, period. If Tebow was better, then why can't he earn the job in practice, training camp, pre-season? I don't want to hear that he would excel in a real game-time situation. Does Tom Brady perform poorly in practice?...no! Does Aaron Rogers?.....No! You earn the job in practice. Orton earned the job, had a poor game (along with the D run stop, O-line, RB's, kicking and special teams blocking) Can Tim Tebow keep McFadden from rushing for 150 yds? Can Tim Tebow assure that punts do not get blocked? Can Tim Tebow simply lift his left hand and block for himself? Yes, Tim can run out of the pocket and create.........Or at least he did in college, but he hasn't done any of those things consistently in practice against NFL players. If I test-drive a car on I-25 for a mile and the engine putters, then I am not driving that thing in Downtown Denver in rush hour.
I am not saying Orton is a top 5, top 10 QB, but he is the best QB Denver has. I am no expert, but the expert's that I trust have said time and time again that Tim Tebow he is not an NFL caliber QB yet. I watched a few training camp sessions and he looked no better than Quinn. The pre-season, for the most part, was a bad showing for him. So now, we have Orton. We need to get behind the guy, or at least not throw stones.
What good is home field advantage when the crowd pounces on every negative aspect of the game? Where were the boo's for the lack of a run game? Where were the boo's for lack of a run stop D? I guess what I am trying to say it that be fair in your jeers. Orton is the guy, for now, if Orton's not, then we need to look elsewhere in the off-season. I am skeptical about Moreno, but no way in hell am I at a game chanting "BALL" or "MCGAHEE." Yes, it's a quarterback's league but take a look at the entire situation first.
I heard on several shows that the boo's shouldn't affect a good QB. Maybe so, but it's an added pressure we don't need. I will say that in the thick of the "Tebow" chant, Orton drove his team down with 4 min left and helped them get abck within 3.
I know I am going against the grain on Tebow. If he DOES get a chance in this league and does great, than I will be the first to admit I was wrong. In fact, when Orton was in the rumor mill of trader talks, I was prepared to get behind Tebow.
Let's give Denver their home field advantage back! It's hard to play in places like Pittsburgh because even with Big Ben's questionable reputation, on game day, the fans are there for him. Let's be there for our guy!
